What makes Toyota the #1 Selling Passenger Car Brand in Canada ?
All 2011 Toyota models come standard with the Star Safety System™ .This integration of active safety features is designed to protect occupants by helping drivers avoid accidents in the first place. The Star Safety System™ includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC),1 Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA)2 and Smart Stop Technology (SST).3
1. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) helps prevent wheel slip and loss of traction by reducing engine power and applying brake force to the wheels that need it. 2. Traction Control (TRAC) helps maintain traction on wet, icy, loose or uneven surfaces by applying brake force to the spinning wheel(s). 3. Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) helps prevent brakes from locking up by "pulsing" brake pressure to each wheel to help you stay in control in emergency braking situations. 4. Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Toyota's ABS technology has Electronic Brake-force Distribution to help keep the vehicle more stable and balanced when braking. 5. Brake Assist (BA) is designed to detect sudden or "panic" braking and adds the full pressure needed to help prevent a collision. 6. Smart Stop Technology (SST), this advanced technology automatically cuts engine power and allows the brakes to take precedence over the accelerator when both pedals are presses at the same time.
Toyota welcomes the findings of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding our Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence (ETCS-i) and appreciates the thoroughness of their review. This rigorous scientific analysis should further reinforce confidence in the safety of Toyota and Lexus vehicles and should help put to rest unsupported speculation about Toyota's ETCS-i, which is well-designed and well-tested to ensure that a real world, un-commanded acceleration of the vehicle cannot occur.
We will continue to develop and equip Toyota and Lexus vehicles with industry-leading safety technologies, including many based on breakthroughs in sophisticated electronics systems. We will also continue to cooperate fully with regulators in order to help ensure that our customers have the utmost confidence in the safety and reliability of the vehicles they drive. Everyone at Toyota, including all 18,000 Canadian employees, is focused on listening to customers and constantly improving our products and service.
Regarding the safety and reliability of Toyota vehicles with ETCS-i, the company also noted:
Electronic throttle control systems have long been standard across the automobile industry, and they provide a great benefit to consumers.
Toyota's ETCS-i has performed reliably in more than 40 million cars and trucks sold around the world, including Canada.
This system has also made possible significant safety advances such as vehicle stability control and traction control, which are among the six accident avoidance technologies in Toyota's Star Safety SystemTM now standard on all 2011 vehicles Toyota manufactures for the North American market.
