Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Myths
At Drayton Valley Toyota, we understand that some of our customers are reluctant to buy EVs. We are often asked if electric vehicles are limited by range, lacking in charging infrastructure, or burdened by high maintenance costs. Let's set the record straight and debunk these myths!
Are electric vehicles lacking the charging infrastructure needed to get around?
There are actually tons of electric chargers in the Langley and BC area, so you can go on road trips with peace of mind. Charging infrastructure is rapidly expanding, with an extensive network of public and private chargers, including convenient home installations. Are EVs limited by range?
Today's EVs offer impressive ranges, with some surpassing 300 miles on a single charge. The new Toyota bZ4X has a range of up to 406km!
Are electric cars burdened by high maintenance costs/higher electricity bills?
Contrary to popular belief, EVs generally require less maintenance due to their simpler mechanics. Another common misconception is that they make your electricity bill skyrocket. This simply isn't true: while your electricity bill may increase, but you no longer have to pay for gas. In addition, EV owners can take advantage of federal/provincial rebates & special rates/incentives from some utility companies.
Are Toyota electrified vehicles as safe as a conventionally powered vehicle?
Toyota’s hybrid electric systems are designed and tested for Canada just like any Toyota vehicle, and adhere to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. HEVs, PHEVs and BEVs cause no greater concern for passengers or rescuers in the event of a collision than non-hybrid vehicles. The batteries are sealed in a protective metal case and insulated from the vehicle body.
