HOW TOYOTA HYBRIDS WORK
Electric Mode, Gas Mode or a Seamless combination of both. Toyota Hybrids automatically switch from gas to electric to run the vehicle as efficiently as possible. This results in a power-train that produces up to 70% less smog forming emissions than conventional gas engines and diesels – without sacrificing performance or ever needing to plug-in.
STARTING UP
Delivering instant torque with minimal emissions, a Toyota Hybrid vehicle engages only the electric motor on start up in most conditions
ACCELERATING AND CRUISING
Teamed up, the gas engine and electric motor work together to provide an ideal mix of power for seamless acceleration. Excess energy is used to help recharge the battery.
DECELERATING AND BRAKING
The electric motor takes over here. To recharge the battery and conserve as much energy as possible, our regenerative braking system converts kinetic braking energy into usable electric energy.
RESTING AND REVERSING
To conserve fuel, the gas engine shuts down when stopped and while reversing at low speeds.
AVAILABLE PLUG-IN HYBRID
Travel faster and further on less gas with our Plug-in Hybrid the Prius Prime. While the Prime operates much the same as our non-plug-in Hybrid models, it can also be plugged in for extended electric range. Travel up to 1,035 km on one tank of gas and a full battery charge, up to 40 km on EV-mode (electric only) alone & recharge in 5 hr and 30 minutes – the fastest charging times in it’s class.
